It is a common belief that
first fall Adiguru Shankracharya offered his prayer and
worship in this temple. The famous historian A. Cunningham
has done a detailed Study of this temple. He dates the
stone inscription to 9th or 10th century A.D. In 1922
some joins piligrims inspired king Brajnath Singh
Judev to ban offering of animal sacrifice in
the temple.
Statues of Sri Kalbhairav, Bhagwan Narsingh, Hanuman ji,
Goddess Mother Kali, Durga, Sri Gauri Shankar, Sheshnag,
Phoolmati Mata, Bramhdev & Jalappadevi are also installed
in Sharda Devi temple campus. Piligrims visit here to
offer prayer for learning, wealth & children it is
common belief that any prayer with ill will is not fulfilled
by mothers |

Sharda different ,”sanskaras”
like “mundane sanskaras” and “karnchhedan
sanskaras” are performed here.
Collector satna is the chair person of Maasharda Devi
Samiti which was formed under m.p. maasharda devi act
2002 to manage this world famous shrine. This committee has
constructed 2 piligrim hostels,clock room and made proper arrangement
for ‘sulabh sauchalay’ and clean and green hill
and campus .It is in the centre of chitrakoot and amarkantak
state highway. Maihar has been declared “Holly
Town” by mp government in 2009. |
