Khajuraho |
| The
architectural style of the Khajuraho temples is very different
from the temple prototype of that period. Each stands,
instead of within the customary enclosure, on a high masonry
platform. Combined with the upward direction of the structure,
which is further accentuated by vertical projections,
the total effect is one of grace and lightness, reminiscent
of the Himalayan peaks. Each |
 |
| of
the chief compartments has its own roof, grouped in such
a way that the highest is in the centre, the lowest over
the portico, a triumph of skill and imagination in recreating
the rising peaks of a range. |

Chitrakoot
(Satna) |
 |
The religious activity builds
up in a crescendo of colours and spontaneous expressions
of faith through the day, past high noon, gently diminishing
as the setting sun picks out the bright colours of flower
petals floating down the river, while the evening 'arti'
lends its melodious cadences to the deepening dusk. At
all times, Ramghat witnesses a deep and abiding faith
which finds expression in the rituals which honour the
sanctity of Chitrakoot. |
| The satna city from the Earlier
days is famous for its pious and pilgrim Activities. There
are many old temples been situated in this region. some
of the famous temples in this area are : Vyankatesh temple,
Hanuman Mandir, Devi Mata Ka Mandir. The religious importance
of the city has been also incresed because of the Maa
Sharda Mandir(Maihar) , situated 38 Km away from the city.

Ramvan(temple of Lord Hanuman) . The Ramvan temple is
situated 15 km away from the city on the national highway
towards Rewa (Rewa Road). The main attraction of the Ramvan
is its huge ancient Statue of lord Hanuman which was built
100 years Ago. Lord Hanuman of the river Mandakini reveal
a constantly moving and changing kaleidoscope of religious
activity. Here, amidst the chanting of hymns and the sweet
fragrance of incense, holy men in saffron robes sit, in
silent meditation or offer the solace of their wisdom
to the countless pilgrims who converge here. With the
very first rays of dawn that gleam upon the river, Ramghat
stirs into life as the devout of all ages take the ritual,
purifying dip in the waters and invoke the blessings of
the gods. The rippling blue green waters of the Mandakini
can be traversed by boats, readily available for hire.

Bandhavgarh (Shahdol)
|
Covering 448 sq. km., Bandhavgarh is situated
in Shahdol district among the outlying hills of the Vindhya
range. At the centre of the park is Bandhavgarh hill,
rising 811 mt above MSL. Surrounding it are a large number
of smaller hills separated by gently sloping valleys.
These valleys end in small, swampy meadows, locally known
as 'Bohera'. The lowest point in the park is at Tala (440
mt above MSL). The vegetation is chiefly of |
 |
| Sal forest in the valleys and
on the lower slopes, gradually changing to mixed deciduous
forest on the hills and in the hotter, drier areas of
the park in the south and west. Bamboo is found throughout.
Bandhavgarh is densely populated with tiger and other
wildlife species. The great Gaur, or Indian Bison, can
be seen with ease, as they come onto the meadows to graze
at dusk; Sambar and Barking Deer are a common sight, and
Nilgai are to be seen in the more open areas of the park.

Pachmarhi |
 |
The historical
profile of Pachmarhi is fairly represented in the rock
painting and the pristine caves.
Pachmadi (five huts), from which Pachmarhi derives its
name, is a set of five caves(Pandav caves), which local
Barhminical tradition claims as one of the places where
the Pandavas sojourned during their wandweing (Agyatvasa).
Archeologists, however, affirm that these caves are of
Budhdhist origin, and a link between Sanchi & Ajanta. |
